Conservatory Requirements

Level 1 Placement:
In order to successfully gain acceptance into the Dance Conservatory program each student must have a complete knowledge of the basic technical and artistic aspects of Jazz and Ballet Technique. The   completion of a physical audition and a written assessment is required. At this time students must demonstrate properly executed basic jumps, pirouettes, and combinations.
 
 
Level 2 Placement:
Each student seeking entry into a Level 2 Dance Conservatory course must demonstrate that he or she has mastered the fundamental technical elements of Jazz and Ballet Technique. Completion of a Level 1 Conservatory course and participation in a Level 1 exhibition/recital performance is required, as well as the completion of a physical audition and written assessment, organized by all Dance Arts Instructors at the end of each school year. Students must demonstrate properly executed basic jumps, single-double pirouettes, basic traveling steps, and stationary technical combinations, as well as show that they are physically and technically prepared to begin Intermediate work.
 
 
Level 3 Placement:
Each student seeking entry into a Level 3 Dance Conservatory course must demonstrate that he or she has mastered the fundamental technical elements of Jazz and Ballet Technique at the Intermediate level. Completion of a Level 2 Conservatory course and participation in a Level 2 production/performances assigned during the previous year is required, as well as the completion of a physical audition and written assessment, organized by all Dance Arts Instructors at the end of the school year. Students must demonstrate properly executed intermediate jumps, double-triple pirouettes, intermediate traveling steps, stationary technical combinations (at the intermediate level), and show that they are physically and technically prepared to begin the study of more advanced works and choreography.
 
Level 4 Placement:
Each student seeking entry into a Level 4 Dance Conservatory course must demonstrate that he or she has mastered the fundamental technical elements of Jazz and Ballet Technique at the High Intermediate-Advanced or Advanced Level. Completion of a Level 3 Conservatory course, an oral interview with Dance Arts Instructors, and participation in all required Level 3 production/performances assigned during the previous year is required, as well as the completion of a physical audition and written assessment, organized by all Dance Arts Instructors at the end of the school year. Students must demonstrate properly executed advanced jumps, traveling steps, and stationary technical combinations, and should be able to successfully execute multiple turn sequences and pirouette combinations. In addition, the student seeking to gain placement within a Level 4 course must show that they are physically and technically prepared to begin the study of advanced and pre-professional works and choreography.


 Please Note:
All incoming students must complete a physical audition and a written assessment in order to be considered for placement within the Dance Conservatory. Placement will be determined by the skill level of the student upon audition.
